We are talking about his films and in details about the films and his favourite ones… thank you again for joining us here…

Pehli film jiske bare mein baat karte hain….a… who hogi sardar…sardar vallabh bhai patel…jis mein aapne kaha bhi tha ki who aapka turning point tha aapke career mein… kaphi mushkile aapko hui thi preparation mein ya phir because it was a real life character preparation easy tha?

Paresh Rawal:
Nahi… kaphi difficult that kyon ki….waise bhi apne aap mein sardar patel kaphi controversial rahein the…kuch logo ke liye…toh kahin aisa na ho jaye humara portrayal ki assign of the role ki koi isko alag tarah se interpret kar le because kuch circle mein he was branded as a kind of anti muslim guy… and sort of thing..toh yeh poori koshish rahi thi ki bhaiyya kisi bhi kisam ka…a…unka jo andaz hain aisa na ho…hala ke jo history hain an jo kahani hain bilkul alag hain usse koi lena dena hi nahin hain… toh who hisab se kaphi difficult tha. Uske baad yeh tha ki main pehli baar koi real life character kar raha that toh uspe aap jyada imagination nahin laga sakte ho..ke who aadmi kaisa tha kaise behave karte the…aur unke…aur pakarna yeh tha ke unke spirit ko pakarna tha

Salil:
Toh reference points kya tha?

Paresh Rawal:
Reference point all the photographs, and the books and his radio speeches who sab the.

Salil:
So when you are doing a film like this in your career which is .. agreeing the turning point but also in a place like India kya aapko lagta hain ke….this was an important film for you at that time or would you have preferred it to come later in your career?

Paresh Rawal:
No I think…..jo bhi tha time who sahi tha because who jab bhi aati utna hi difficult hona tha

Salil:
Achha!!
But I think over the years you gathered experience then it woud have become probably easier..

Paresh Rawal:
aa……mujhe lagta hain experience ke saath saath thora zung bhi lag jata…who tab thora mind bhi fresh rehta hain….i think so that is how I look at it….haan of coursewhat you say is right thora bahot phark toh par jaata but mujhe lagata jo ho gaya hain who ho gaya hain

Salil:
aap experience ki baat kar rahein hain …also as a fresheners…how does one stay fresh with comedy?now I am gonna talk about another film “ andaz apna apna” does not that much different a character can always do when you are doing the number of films that you are doing …. Now Andaz apna apna mein “teza” naam tha… aur logo ne who film bahot pasand ki aap ko bhi bahot pasand kiya….what was the thought process…ab yeh ek sardar ki film baat kardi jahaan pe aapne kaphi kuch thought process daala tha role ke peeche….andaaz apna apna ke liye aap dimag bandh kar keg aye the….just natural acting what ever is realistic…how??

Paresh Rawal:
Nahi yeh kya hain naa ki sardar patel main ek bandish rehti thi ke aap iske bahar jaa nahi sakte but jo…jo ..jo….. who non fiction tha yeh fiction hain…iske andar aap ko laga ki main yeh kar sakta hoon ya main who kar sakta hoon..toh director ke saath baith ke kar sakte ho, waha pe sab kuch set hain, yahan pe set nahi hain,mane agar yahan….. aap ko job hi karma hain aap kar sakte ho…koi bandish nahin hain…ya…

Salil:
Pressure is definitely less..

Paresh Rawal:
Ya

Salil:
Yeh aapki one of the favourite film kyon thi yeh film??

Paresh Rawal:
Andaz apna apna?...kyon ki I think pehli baar main double role kar raha tha uske andar…doosri baat yeh thi ki raj santoshi… I think …he is…I think he is the only director …unki aap dekhiye variety jo diye unhone filmo mein…ek toh who pehli baar comedy kar rahein the…and I think he is a very good actor also…toh hume thori bohot aasani bhi ho gayee thi…aur mujhe yeh lagta hain ki andaz apna apna apne…apne zamane ki….apne zamese se bahot aage ki film thi…agar aj aati toh 100% hit ho jaati

Paresh Rawal:
Ya! It’s a terrific comedy

Salil:
But I also think because its paresh rawals…its very difficult to campare yourself with somebody else the bar is always raised by comparing paresh rawal ji previous performances…aaj kal yeh mere khyal se aap ke saath yeh ho gaya hain…so even when we talk about hera pheri or sequal to hera pheri…babu rao ganapat rao apte….ek baar apko dekhne gaye toh bas yehi dekhna chahte hain…usmein bhi ek tarah se bandish aa jati hain ki iske bahar na karein kyon ki hum toh yehi dekhne aaye hain..is character ko..

Paresh Rawal:
Ya …who hain…ek agar aap sequal kar rahein hain toh bandish aa hi jaati hain ke aap ko isi tarah pesh aana hain ….aap alag kar nahi sakte…aur bandish ke saath yeh bhi hota hain ke aap kuch alag …mane story level mein bhi kuch alag attempt nahin kar sakte…dekhiye sequal toh yeh bhi alag hain “lage raho munnabhai”but I think it is a contempt league

Salil:
Ya very different! Film

Paresh Rawal:
Ya ..munna bhai mbbs dekho aur lage raho munnabhai dekho..zameen aasman ka phark hain…kitni bariya film hain…mujhe lagta hain ki agar sequal banana hain toh is tarah ki banana chahiye you know…jo god father bani thi aur yeh god father part II aap dekhiye ise kehte hain ke jo bhi aapka goodwill hain use lekar…uska sahara lekar..use launching pad banake…aap kuch alag disha mein ja rahe ho kuch achha kar rahe ho not that ke same repeatation you know..

Salil:
Are you somebody who watches a lot of foreign films also?

Paresh Rawal:
Ya ya I do…humari hindi film kitni dekhenge aap?

Salil:
(Laughing)
very true but paresh rawal jii ki film mein achhi baat yeh hoti hain ki zyada waqt ke liye intezaar nahi karna parta hain unke filmo ke liye…toh atleast char paanch baar toh main course ho jaata hain saal mein…philhaal toh ek chota sa break lete hain we will be right back on star stop…paresh rawal jii and his films we are discussing…we will be right back…

we are back on star stop aur humare saath paresh rawal jii jinke filmo ke bare mein hum baat cheet kar rahein hain…ek aisi film jo….i have to say sir you were a brave actor to take that role….shayad aise bahot hi kam actors hain to aaj tak mein suntan hoon ke kuch aise roles hote hain …relating to homosexuality or palying an yunac and all that even an established actor today will not experiment with that and opposition face kiya tha aapne apne dosto se..ke family se ke don’t do this role…??

Paresh Rawal:
No no …mahesh bhatt is offering me something you must take it in run

Salil:
How did bhatt saab convince you to do the role…..did you…

Paresh Rawal:
Nothing…he did not convince me at all…main kehta hoon naa bhatt saab job hi denge lelo as an actor….mujhe unke saath bahot mazaa aaya …who jis kisam ke director hain har actor ko…abhi to direct karte nahin…bari unfortunate baat hain lekin who jab bhi direct karte the actor ke liye toh…mane mazaa hi mazaa hoti thi..because the way he will talk to you…the way he will say few things about the role..kaphi unlock ho jata hain aapke andar. Toh unhone kaha ke bhaiyya yeh bhi real life character hain “tamanna” yeh karo mazaa aayega…bola thik hain bhatt saab 100% karte hain and that is how it all started and then he was talking about that guy and I met that guy his name is tiku aur baad mein unke larki se bhi mila ..her name was “tamanna”

Salil:
But it was a very hard hitting subject also…

Paresh Rawal:
Very very!! Hard hitting subject that only mr.bhatt can do it

Salil:
What was the audience’s reaction aapke..obviously sab ne….i mean critically you have acclaimed for the role…

Paresh Rawal:
Ya audience…mujhe lagta hain abhi…..pata nahin commerce wise kaisi rahi…kyon ki main us bare mein sochta nahin hoon mera kaam hain hi nahin who…lekin jinhone dekhi thi unhe…aayi thi pasand aayi thi…mera kaam pasand aaya

Salil:
Kayi baar aise role karte karte aapko nahi lagta hain ke one can probably go a little over the top

Paresh Rawal:
You do ! you do !

Salil:
Sometimes are you…or even if you talk about paresh rawl do you feel that sometimes you have to be very careful about the fine line that can….

Paresh Rawal:
Ya ya! Ooooohhh…..the actors do get carried away toh I think who hain director baitha hua hain unhe sambhalne ke liye… yeh kam kar do…yeh thora tone down karne ke liye…yeh itna kar do yeh utna kar do..kyon ki main us bare mein zyada soch nahin paata kyon ki kabhi kabhi role ka jo bojh hota hain who itna bara bojh hota hain ki har jagah aap energy aap distribute nahin kar paate ho

Salil:
This with the flow what you call…

Paresh Rawal:
Ya!

Salil:
At times that can happen in fact comedies are very difficult thing to do because its not easy making people laugh and you have to do twenty retakes and do it ..where you stop laughing already at yourself…but “hungama” was one film we all laughed at..

Paresh Rawal:
Ya!

Salil:
And… I think everyone wanted to beat you up in that role ..it was superb…aise mere khyal se bahot husbands honge..its a light hearted comedy again …jab who film aap ke paas aayi thi…again its close to your heart …the reasons being?

Paresh Rawal:
Ya! Because….aa…. ek toh mr.priyadarshan ki film thi…toh ek toh pata tha hi ki achhi film hogi…doosri baat yeh hain ki I was ..a…acting opposite akshay khanna suppose for the first time kyon ki kudrat naam ki ek film kit hi humne…lekin arse ke baad main unke saath kaam kar raha tha and in my opinion is one of the finest actor we have…you can see even “Gandhi – my father” also

Salil:
Correct

Paresh Rawal:
In his first film….”border” also see the sensitivity

Salil:
Even in “taal” also

Paresh Rawal:
Oh! He is a very good actor…toh unke saath kaam kar raha that oh unke saath taal mel bhi humara acha tha

Salil:
Maine aksar dekha hain ke jab bhi aap filmo ke naam lete hain sabse pehle aap director ka naam lete hain yani ki aaap sabse bare list mein director ka naam acha hona chahiye

Paresh Rawal:
Jii haan!! Jii haan!!

Salil:
Toh yeh bahot zaroori hoga mere khyal se aap ke liye…agar koi naya larka aye script leke aapke paas ..is it tough to convince paresh rawal??

Paresh Rawal:
No! no! script leke aaya hain…agar achhi script ho toh…kyon ki dekhiye nishi kanth kamath pehli bar…not pehli baar doosri baar direct kar rahein hain…unhone mujhe script di…aur main yeh kar raha hoon…aise kaaphi new new comer ke saath main kaam kar raha hoon

Salil:
I think….its also an exciting process for the new comers also

Paresh Rawal:
Ya ya ya ya ya!!!! Aur hume bhi seekhne ko milta hain…itne saal industry mein rahein hain and very obviously kuch logo ko toh zung lag jata hain yaar and they take things for granted…who jo… aap ki jo freshness hain who chali gayee hain…aur jo naya aadmi aata hain use aap achhi tarah se sunenge toh thora bahot rust jo hain who nikal jaata hain..alag alag ideas …alag alag sensible logo saath aap kaam karoge toh apne aap ko hi aur nikhar loge

Salil:
Fresh ideas ki agar baat karein toh….a….ek gentleman hain jo mujhe bare maverick lagte hain…kabhi zabardast film toh kabhi jo film who banate hain who khud unko samajh mein nahi aati hain… “daur” ek aisi film thi jismein you were very well appreciated, but…I think it stopped at that and the audience took some time to understand even though they had good star cast

Paresh Rawal:
Ya! Ramu ki yeh ek beauty hain you know what you said is correct…I think he is a very adventurous and a very very courageous film maker….jo koi haath nahi dalta hain usmein haath daal deta hain

Salil:
Lekin kabhi mujhe aisa lagta hain ki kyon ki kisisne wahan pe haath nahi daala ..woh waha pe haath daal dete hain..

Paresh Rawal:
(laughing)
we must say a filmmaker like that because we with all due respect I mean and regardless of box office and all that aur dekhiye box office mein jitney bhi filmein hit hui hain who yaar bari bhaddi kissim ki film banate hain aur unki film exciting bhi hoti hain

Salil:
(laughing)
I suppose off screen bhi exciting hoti hain…ram gopal verma ke saath aapne jo waqt bitaya…how is he…aapne bhatt saab ki baat batayi…compare..if you had to compare directors …how would you ram gopla verma be??

Paresh Rawal:
Ramu…I mean…film …as a director….you see bhatt saab ke liye..bhatt saab sole pe kaam karte hain…ramu ka over all film ka …mane mujhe jahan tak yaad hain ramu the way he narrates you the story..he narrates you shot by shot…pehle yeh shot hoga phir yeh cut hoga phi yaha trolley jayegi phir yeh…..bhatt saab who baat nahin karte hain. He talks …ke bhaiyya ek kirdar hain yeh kahani iska yeh hain ..unke liye koi shot taking ki….woh kud aise koi camera wamera koi maine nahin rakhte hain…bhatt saab is ther to capture by camera not to conquer..ha ha ha ha ….ramu ke sath maine kaphi filmein ki hain…shiva kit hi pehli film…baad mein telegu film kit hi mani…mani…shanakshanam….govinda govinda,yeh char filmein …telegu filmein ki thi…

Salil:
Toh acha rappo hoga?

Paresh Rawal:
Ya ya!!!

Salil:

Star stop it is and paresh rawal with me and discussing his films..all the people that he has loved working with….”malamal weekly” priyadarshan ki film..bahot hi zabardast climax jayse unke filmo mein hota hain…..unki film mein kaam karne mein bahot choreography hoti hogi? I think as far as you know the way the movement of the characters because the way its edited ek cheez doosre cheez pe gir raha hota hain aur kisi aur ke thali mein gir raha hota hain…

Paresh Rawal:
Dekhiye…aaj abhi aisa time aa gaya hain ke job hi director hain who ek scene yeh angle se bhi lega…yeh angle se bhi lega…yeh angle se bhi lega…more than direction they look at the coverage…very few directors are ther and priya darshan is one of them…he is jogger of and technical he is veru very sharp…warna humko toh yehi lagta hain ke inko editing mein time hi nahin lagta hoga ki aap dekhiye poori jo shot talking jo hain itni hume pata nahin as an actor…mane itni technical aadmi nahi hoon phir bhi mujhe pata chalta hain ke ekdum saaph tarike se liya gaya hain…you know…ek shot ya ek scene ko teen baar karma nahi parta…ek dialogue ko do baar bolna nahi parta hain…alag alag angle pe camera…aur dekhiye dekhne mein itna …unki framing mein itna charge hain…I think he is a fantastic director..

Salil:
And also in his films there are a lot of characters in a shot….

Paresh Rawal:
Ya !ya! ya!

Salil:
That is very difficult to do….

Paresh Rawal:
Very difficult…..

Paresh Rawal:
Aur har kisi ka characterization alag hain toh who dikhta hain… I think unke film mein bahot zabardast mahol rehta hoga??

Paresh Rawal:
Ya! Aur malamal weekly ke andar mazaa yeh aaya ki yu dekh lijiye ki sab character actor ko pakar ke saare character actor ko pakar ke unhone hero bane hain

Salil:
Ek caror ki jo lottery thi…bara mazaa aaya film dekhne mein…but actually…mushkil yeh hoti ki paresh rawal jii ko aise shant vatavaran mein dekh kar mere dimag mein sirf characters chal rahein the so I really found it hard to have a normal conversation but “awara pagal deewana” ek aisi film thi jo shuruwat mein kuch aur cheez ke liye boli jaa rahi thi phir dheere dheere word of mouth spread hua tha ke aap ka zabardast performance tha us mein

Paresh Rawal:
Hera pheri ke baad ek aisa daur chala tha ke yahan bhi paresh rawal ek comedy karte toh…aur film achi bhi thi because not only.. mera role toh acha tha hi phir aftab was good and ofcourse akshay kumar is there…but then akshay kumar..is….

Salil:
Now he has reached the status…

Paresh Rawal:
Yes yes ek acha….well deserved hain kyon ki who banda jis tarike se mehnat karke bana hain…..bilkul khoon pasina ek karke bana hain

Salil:
Aur aaj I think bardti umar ke saath unki looks bhi zyada achhi hain

Paresh Rawal:
Yes! I think his charm is timeless…kind of carigrant kind of charm you know

Salil:
Superb! Compliment to him I think akshay will love that….but if you talk about timeless classic this would be one of them sardar

Paresh Rawal:
Ya ya

Salil:
Ya it would come under classic…its beautiful songsand yes you would be working with your favorite directors again…

Paresh Rawal:
Favorite director?
My most favorite actor…naseer bhai…au aise actor ke saath kaam karo toh aapko acting karne ki zaroorat nahi parti….apne aap nikalte jaata hain…aapka performance bilkul aisa lagega ke andar se photo raha hain par who credit unko jaati hain aur main sahi maino mein kehta hoon even in the cost of modesty kehta hoon

Salil:
Naseeruddin shah… I feel over a period of time also….at least what we see of him now…itna kuch karne ke baad does wana loose interest because you don’t see…suppose you have a brilliant bats man in the team and if you see all the other ten always not being in the score does want to loose interest at one point of time because we don’t see much of him now…he stays away..is it..

Paresh Rawal:
No he does not stay away…who yeh hain ki itna hain body of work dekho ya toh jo play karte hain who dekhiye jo para hain ya phir jis tarah ke who sikhate hain..he is a fantastic teacher also toh aisa aadmi jisne apne aap ko taiyyar kiya hain 5000 mtrs ke liye aur aap usko 50 mtr ka race dete ho yaar toh kya karega who? Usko kuch aisa do kaam ki unko bhi karne mein mazaa aaye…hume dekhne mein mazaa aaye kitna seekhne ko hain…unhone prophet naam ka play kiya tha who dekhiye

Salil:
Well I feel that’s the biggest part sometimes our industry becomes very hollow and shallow because of commercial reasons but I guess we do have actors like paresh rawal who will help us see an enriching performance and we are looking forward to that and our London viewers, u.k and Canadian viewers would love to hear a little message sir…

Paresh rawal:
“ mera message yehi hain ke filmein dekhiye lekin pirated dvd pe mat dekhiye, theatre mein jaa ke dekhiye, aur job hi achi film hoti hain usko aap aur uthaiye…taaki unka hausla bhi barega aapko bhi mazaa aayega.. unko bhi mazaa aayega aur unka bhi dharm banta hain ke aap ko aur achhi fil banake dikhaye”

Salil:
