2008 was a remarkable year for the star with a string of box-office hits (Welcome, Singh is Kinng), a successful stint on TV and a scorching new ad campaign. Off screen, Akshay is a grounded family man, devoted to his wife and son and has a sense of humour.

He credits his “Punjabi eyes” for his effortless sex appeal adding, “Just for the record, I’m not what you call good-looking. Our industry just happens to have excellent directors of photography. That’s all,” he tells after receiving the honour.

On being an icon, he tells “I think everyone just likes to change the way I look — it seems to be an amusing passtime for them…I’m not afraid to try anything. It takes guts to be an icon. If we played it safe all the time, fashion wouldn’t exist.”
