“Not every actor is a born Shahrukh”,
those are the words always used when a Television actor
tries to make his debut on the big screen. Having pre-conceived
notions before getting into the theater is not good.
But this time, we suggest, that you carry on with your
ideas.
Because Aamir is one film which is going to prove you
absolutely wrong and this fact is going to make you
appreciate the movie and the talent behind it, all the
more.
Aamir is a story which revolves around Dr. Aamir Ali
(Rajeev Khandelwal), who falls in the trap of communal
violence, without any clue as to what destiny has in
store for him. The movie starts with Dr. Aamir Ali landing
up at the airport after finishing his studies in London,
only to find his family not present to receive him.
He tries to enquire the unusual situation, by calling
up at home, where nobody answers. A mobile phone is
thrown at him there itslef, answering which he realises
that his family has been kidnapped by a group of terrorists.
He is strained to follow the injuctions given to him
on the phone. As Aamir becomes the whipping boy of their
plan, he is forced to get his hands dirty into everything
he has never imagined before. He goes into unknown places
with no clue whatsoever, as to the monstrosity he is
getting himself into. He later happens to concieve that
he has been targeted to be the butt for a bomb implantaion
under the umbrella of working for his community.
Then he lands into a position where he is stuck in
a disarray of deciding whther to save his family, or
to save an entire crowd of strangers, or to find a way
out to save both, i.e. either to go with the destiny,
or write one of his own.
Rajeev Khandelwal’s role is beyond words. He
has given a spectacular performance. He has effortlessly
broken his chocolate boy image [on television], and
has come out bright. With brilliant camera angles, Rajkumar
Gupta brings the best out of Rajeev.
The film has been shot in Mumbai, the cinematographer,
Alphons Roy raps up the best of locations. It is a fast
paced thriller that has various twists at every point.
The dialogues have been excellently crafted and Aamir’s
character progresses well. The editing of the movie
makes it a masterpiece, with flawless cuts.
The music of the film has been well appreciated. Amit
Trivedi, a first time film music composer has done a
good job. A spirtual song “Mehfuz” bags
the crown. The picturization of the song is done in
the “gallis” of Mumbai. “Never Mind”,
another song featuring Rajeev as the protaganist, and
as narrator, has excellent lyrics.
A scene that really deserves a mention is the portion
where Rajeev faces prostitutes. Where the movie shows
Rajeev coming across various people he has never met
in his life, his expressions and body language in such
scenes are unerred.
With excellent acting and brilliance in technical grounds,
Aamir promises to be a thrilling movie that takes the
audience in its stride.
