Karan Johar’s highly anticipated film ‘Dostana’ finally released across the country.

It is total entertainer film with A list stars like Abhishek Bachchan, John Abraham, Priyanka Chopra and Boby Deol.
Now lets get things without delay – Abhishek Bachchan and John Abraham are NOT gay in the film, they’re in love with the same girl (Priyanka Chopra) and a salvo of situations make them imagine that they are.

DOSTANA takes you on voyage of comedy and tickles your cheekbone. The movie is set in the superb locales of Miami. Abhishek and John enjoy the surf and sand but have no place to stay. Enter hotness Priyanka Chopra with plunging necklines living in a posh apartment. Abhi and John decide to stay with her, and they pretend to swing the bat the other way. Priyanka has no problems regarding the ‘happy gay couple’ staying with her and the three become best buddies.

As expected, both the guys fall head over heels in love with her. But nothing that occurred in the original ‘Dostana’ between Amitabh Bachchan and Shatrughan Sinha happens here. Instead of sacrificing, both try their level best to out do each other to strike on Priyanka. And to make things crazier, she in turn falls in love with her colleague Bobby Deol.

DOSTANA springs up surprise after surprise, hilarious situations and enjoyable. If it weren’t for the gay twist in the tale, this would have ended up a ‘been there done that’ film that no one would’ve watched. While the first half is filled with curbs and goofs every other scene, the story begins to take shape only in the second half.

Bollywood suffers from a syndrome where a movie strangely turns into crud after the interval, but thankfully that doesn’t happen here. There are enough twists and shock values to keep you glued to your seat. Although you’d guess the climax long before it actually happens, the ride is still funny and interesting. The gay angle is expertly handled (full marks to Karan J) and never does it offend the gay community in any way. This is a pleasant change after watching sickening nudges at gay threesomes in Golmaal Returns.

Coming to the starcasts. Abhshek Bachchan and John Abraham are brilliant in their roles. Abhishek Bachchan’s comic timing and screen presence are itself worthy. John Abraham has really come a long way, his acting skills were non-existent in films like Dhoom and Jism, but has enhanced tremendously in No Smoking and now in Dostana. Although girls slobber over his showy physique, the others can appreciate his transformation. Priyanka Chopra looks good and does well too; this would be her second consecutive hit after Fashion. Bobby Deol clearly gets eclipsed among all these biggies but still manages to hold ground. Director Tarun Mansukhani has established himself in Bollywood and we definitely want to see more of his films.

The cinematography by Ayananka Bose is beautiful and captures the essence of Miami wonderfully. Aki Narula and Manish Malhotra wrap up the stars in some eye-popping attires and Vishal Shekhar’s score keeps the jolly mood going. Supporting character including Boman Irani and Kirron Kher are brilliant.
