With beautiful locations, and great
music at hand, Hastey- Hastey is a light hearted comedy,
which brings together romance, scandal, and drama all
in a humorous package. The film is set in Manhattan,
where Neel (Jimmy Shergill) a student at Columbia University,
who happens to be a brilliant student. His excellence
and attractive personality impresses Maya (Nisha Rawal),
an upper-class Indian Catholic girl and both fall in
love with each other. Everything seems to be going great
in their lives, and both are ready to step into a new
phase of life together. Sunny Malhotra (Rajpal Yadav),
Neel’s best friend and roommate is a habitual
flirt, who happens to run behind every fair skinned
girl. He comes across Tina (Sarah Thomas) and falls
in love with her. Meanwhile, ambitious Neel comes across
an enticing offer when an American offers to help him
in setting a Call Centre in India. Neel, against Maya’s
wishes, yet unable to resist the tempting offer, moves
to India to set up his own call-center. In India, he
meets Tanvi (Monishka), who goes out of the way to help
Neel in completion of his dream projects, as she falls
for him. However, determined Neel rebuffs her moves
towards him. In her rage, she decides to take revenge.
She backs off the funds provided by her to Neel’s
company. She sends Maya photographs with her and Neel
in intimate poses. With her father also against the
relationship, Maya decides to break all ties with Neel.
She is about to get married when, a friend of Neel decides
to help him out, and uses the media to publicize the
scandal Neel had gotten into. Maya catches the piece,
and realizes the truth. She moves to India to look for
Neel, and meets him and both of them reunite.
The movie may not have an extraordinary
story line, but it manages to impress the audience with
a good implementation. Set in Manhattan, New York, the
movie has appealing locations and excels in cinematography.
The characters have been clearly defined and each of
them has its own plus point. Director Tony does an excellent
job in handling the two debutantes. The screenplay of
the movie is spectacular.
Performance wise, the two established
actors, as well as the new comers give in their best.
With a new hairdo, Jimmy Shergill as usual, gives his
best to the character. He looks great on screen with
his new look. His on-screen chemistry with the two female
actors is beyond par and seems absolutely effortless.
Compliments for Rajpal Yadav fall short of words, as
he adds the light moments in the film with a triple-role.
Remarkably established in the comedy genre, Rajpal manages
to give his best to the movie. The two debutantes also
manage to take loads of compliments their way, as they
do a fairly good job for their first movie! Nisha as
well as Monishka look great on the screen. Nisha, a
face not quite unknown, brings a fresh beauty to the
screen. Monishka also looks enticing.
Music of the film is one of the main
attractions. Anu Malik presents a blend of catchy numbers
and romantic melodies to offer music that supports the
screenplay. The title song “hastey–hastey”
is the best among the lot.
Giving a competition to other movies
in it's genres, Hastey-Hastey is a humorous puree of
different emotions.
