Jannat is a remarkable presentation
of a story of a small time gambler, who makes it big
in the match-fixing world, trying to bring stability
in his life involving illicit activities and love (trying
to keep him away from wrong deeds). Arjun Dixit (Emraan
Hashmi) is a diminutive gambler betting his money on
playing cards who finds no luck in his acts of gambling,
and gets into debts, owing money to a petite don. He
tries his hand at gambling for a cricket match and wins
it. Soon, he comes to a realization that he has a sixth
sense of annunciating the winning team. He soon becomes
rich which gives him the power to impress his lady love,
Zoya (Sonal Chauhan), with expensive gifts like a diamond
ring that she’d been eying on since long, and
other gifts like house and car. He soon comes in contact
with a potent don, who helps him earn and regulates
him into the world of match-fixing. While his fiancée
finds out about his ways of earning much more than just
“bread and butter”, she tries to bring him
on the right track. While Arjun tries to switch from
his shady life, to that of an honourable man, the story
interweaves further.
With cricket being the most dissertated
topic these days, the movie gains success by capturing
the nerve of the spectators who’re itching for
cricket stuff! The movie brings out the resemblance
with many real life cricketers and incidences which
have occurred in the history, and handles the sensitive
issues with great care. The movie does great on technical
grounds. The scenes are very well picturised, especially
the last scene of the movie. The movie takes off leaving
the audience on the edge of their seats. The dialogues
happen to be the chief element in the film. For Kunal
Deshmukh, there couldn’t be a better opportunity
in showing the kind of proficiency he has portrayed,
for his directorial debut. The movie is set at a fast
moving pace and brings up a new turn every ten minutes.
The background score adds to the excitement of the scenes.
The love story between Arjun and Zoya is brilliantly
exhibited. The screenplay is superb. The cinematography
of the movie is great. The scenes filmed in Cape Town
are exceptional. The Bhatt’s are able to set their
mark yet again with a movie like “Jannat”.
There couldn’t have been an actor
more suited for the role of Arjun. And Emraan testifies
that in the movie. The film definitely belongs to him.
Emraan fans ought to see the movie, as they witness
his best performance ever. Sonal Chauhan, a known face
in the ad-world, succeeds in looking great on the big
screen as well. She brings out a promise to stand up
tall in the industry with her performance. Even the
supporting cast plays it big. Vipin Sharma gives his
best yet again in a small yet important role of Arjun’s
father, after showing his skills in Taare Zameen Par.
The Bhatt camp manages to bring out
another masterpiece with the album of Jannat. Along
with Pritam they prove the combination to be a smash.
Songs such as “Zara Sa”, sung by KK is already
playing at every lounge. With the album standing first
in the queue these days, the music is definitely the
USP of the film. “Lambi Judai” is another
piece from this classic album.
With a movie that is giving out an
important message of morality in a very bold manner,
with its dialogues and sequences, Jannat is a classic
jewel in the Bhatt’s production house’s
treasure!
