Although Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani are yet again producing the Rock On director’s next movie it would not star Farhan. He will be setting aside his acting instincts next year to focus on directing the sequel to Don.
Abhishek Kapoor has moved on from Rock On.
And how! His next movie which he has just finished scripting and which will start shooting early next year is an adaptation of bestselling author Chetan Bhagat’s novel The 3 Mistakes Of My Life.
This is the third and the last Bhagat novel to be adapted to screen after One Night At A Call Centre (Hello) and Five Point Someone (3 Idiots).
Strangely, like Hirani’s 3 Idiots, Abhishek Kapoor tells his adaptation of Bhagat’s novel is a dramatic departure from the source material. “I’ve completely re-written the novel for the screenplay. It’s been an exhausting process.”
Abhishek is aware of the heightened expectations from him post-Rock On. “I had to make sure I did something that would take me away and ahead of Rock On.”
While Rock On was a completely original script The 3 Mistakes Of My Life is derivative.
Abhishek adds, “It’s not about degrees of originality. It’s about what grabs my attention. And this is the film I want to make next.”
Wouldn’t Abhishek have liked to work with Farhan again?
“I’d love to. But I don’t see him fitting in as any character in The 3 Mistakes Of My Life.” |
