This is good news for all fans and makers of Jail. The movie will release on Friday. The Bombay high court on Wednesday declined to stay the release of the Madhur Bhandarkar film starring Neil Nitin Mukesh on a plea of `alleged' copyright violations in connection with its script.
Justice S C Dharmadhikari observed that there was "an increasing tendency to file suits against movies on the eve of their release.'' He said that such a move, as the film-makers' lawyer pointed out, amounts to "nothing but blackmail.'' In this case, the judge said there was no need to delve into the issue of whether it was a case of blackmail, but warned that the time had come to take strict action against such claims.
He further told that if doubts were raised about the bona fides of such pleas, proceedings would have to be initiated against such claimants for making "false statements on oath.''
