For a director's debut, this film hits the nail right from the start.
It has everything one can hope for in a film. Emotions galore, fun, masti,
nostalgia, grief, pain and an overall hope: something we all need in our
daily lives.
The film is set in a child'd world of a carefree life, of fantasies, class
rooms, teachers and marks. It begins by showing a little kid watching
and collecting small fish from a puddle, throwing away his test papers
to the dogs literally and giving his mother enough grief for her to go
mad.
But then that's what childhood is. The film, in parts, makes one nostalgic
of one's own childhood pranks and carefree-ness. Alas! gone are the day.
But it shows how we as grown ups are so indifferent to the world of children-something
we too have gone through not very long ago.
When Ishaan-the kid does not live up to expectations and cannot cope with
his 3rd standard course, he is put in a boarding much against his wishes.
There he closes out the world and gives up his only passion: Painting.
He longs for the warmth of his mother and to go back home.
In comes an art teacher who brings colours to the otherwise 'boring and
disciplined' school. That too in the intermission.
Now that's wow! for a star actor and director of the film. He remains
true to the subject, not once trying to take away the spotlight. What
happens next. Well you really need to see this film. Its a must-must watch.
