If you have seen Sholay you know the characters and
the story. However here's a recap.
Thakur Baldev Singh (Sanjeev Kumar) seeks to avenge the cold-blooded
massacre of his family at the hands of notorious bandit Gabbar
Singh (Amjad Khan). Since he is unable to do so on his own,
he recruits Veeru (Dharmendra) and Jaidev (Amitabh Bachchan).
Both are jailbirds and have in and out of various jails. They
are reportedly known to carry out any work provided the compensation
is right. Both agree to capture Gabbar Singh live and hand
him over to Baldev Singh. Things do not go as planned. Veeru
falls for the local horse carriage driver Basanti (Hema Malini);
and Jai starts to have romantic feelings for Baldev Singh's
widowed daughter-in-law, Radha (Jaya Bhaduri). To make matters
worse, Gabbar has sworn to kill both Jai and Veeru, and holds
Basanti as a hostage, to lure them to him.
In the new Sholay aka RGV Ki Aag the star
cast is as follows:
Amitabh Bachchan plays Babban, which was originally Gabbar
Singh, played by Amjad Khan.
Mohanlal plays Inspector Narsimha, which was originally Thakur
Baldev Singh, played by Sanjeev Kumar.
Sushmita Sen plays Durga Devi, which was originally Radha,
played by Jaya Bachchan.
Nisha Kothari plays Ghungroo, which was originally Basanti,
played by Hema Malini.
Prashant Raj plays Raj Ranade, which was originally Jai, played
by Amitabh Bachchan.
Ajay Devgan plays Heero, which was originally Veeru played
by Dharmendra.
Oh and there is the eye candy – Urmila Matondkar and Abhishek
Bachchan in the 'Mehbooba Mehbooba' item number.
While the setting in Aag is that of todays the story
line and its plots have been followed to the T. However there
are inevitable comparisons made to the cult film Sholay.
But it's watch able to see what treatment RGV has given in
the modern day context.
