MUMZY STRANGER GIVES US ONE MORE DANCE!
|
| Wednesday, 22nd July 2009 | By Rishma Dhaliwal | London |

The U.K Asian music scene has been heaving with talent recently, however there are certain artists that have notably stood out. Mumzy Stranger is one of these artists.
Mumzy Stranger is a recent addition to the UK Asian Music scene; however he is certainly no stranger to the music industry. Initiating his love for music during the phenomenal UK Garage scene; during an era where the most popular and prestigious title for any artist on the street was being an MC. Now I grew up during the Garage era, and to me it was the first time the UK Music scene was really represented, amongst all the ‘boos’ (which was actually a chant for someone who was good!), the lyrical battles amongst ‘crews’ and the flashing of the lighters in the clubs, the UK style, street culture and individuality was prominently evident. Growing up as an MC in East London, the heart of Garage music, Mumzy made his mark in the urban scene, and to me this is one of the factors that have aided him in developing his unique vocal style and ability to represent the UK and the Asian market in the music scene.
As the UK music scene has developed, so has Mumzy Stranger, with his vocals evolving and proving him to be a versatile, talented artist who is destined for mass appeal.
Mumzy Stranger, who is now signed to leading record label Tiffin Beats Records, was taken under the wing of the renowned Asian producer Rishi Rich, who met Mumzy as a contestant whilst he was judging the BBC Asian Network talent contest ‘Unsung’. Whilst Mumzy did not win the contest, he was definitely a winner in the eyes of Rishi Rich who searched for Mumzy’s demo after the competition and got in immediate contact.
So Mumzy Stranger re-enters the music scene with a soulful, RnB sound with a bit of bashment for the dancefloor tracks.
One More Dance is an extremely impressive debut track, from the moment I heard it it made want to get up and dance! The track inevitably has instant appeal...something I realised after having learnt the words after only listening to it twice, “just give me one more daynceeee” it definitely qualifies as a mainstream hit! It is certainly a feel good party track; however Mumzy’s soulful voice shines through allowing it to be a track that is still appropriate for the moments of easy listening. The smooth verses, funky bridge and melodic chorus, would make anyone want to shake a leg for one more dance, or even two in that case!
With music genres slipping in and out of the mainstream, versatility is an important element for any artist. Mumzy Stranger’s sound has evolved and developed into an adaptable artist set for a successful career. I must admit after seeing him perform live at the media launch, I was fascinated at the way he could change the style of a track with the change of his tone, from soulful to bashment, a live performance that proved his vocal capabilities and originality. There is nothing more perfect than an artist who can do it all; the ability to switch up the mood of a party with the tone of his voice, Mumzy’s music really does have a little something for everyone. A favourite Mumzy Stranger track of mine, and one that is definitely worth listening out for is ‘Runaway’ a soulful catchy ballad, that is capable of bringing a tear to the eye! So I am certain we will be able to expect an album that satisfies to our every mood, an album with variety, an album that allows us to listen to it throughout, instead of a repeat on two or three tracks.
Most importantly Mumzy Stranger has the charisma of a star – minus any sort of diva-male behaviour of course! But rather his immaculate performance skills, and the funky dance moves to go with it, he is packaged for international appeal. So keep an eye out for Mumzy Stranger on B4U Music!!
