Talent in the music industry has been getting younger and younger. With Bieber fever in the air over the past 2 years, more teens have been proving that they have the vocal capabilities to be recording stars. I was extremely surprised when I came across 13 year old Nish… this young girl has been singing from the age of 3, she has a mind-blowing voice and a loveable charisma. Coming from a musical family, she is highly knowledgeable in all genres of music, and is influenced by artists from way before her time. Her debut single ‘Ji Lay' is Hip-pop, electro, fun loving track that is extremely catchy! I meet the little star Nish to find out what else she has planned…
How did your passion for music begin, how did you get discovered? My passion for music began at very early age, even I don't know when it began all i can remember is that my dad use to sing alot of lalabuys to me and i learnt the SUR from those lalbuys when i was very young but my dad realised that i could do it professionally when i was only 3 years old, for me it was nothing to realise coz for me it was natural and I loved doing it.
You are so young, yet have so much to offer! What artists do you look up to? I really like Ustaad Rahat Fateh Ali Khan,Lata g,Sonu Nigam,Shreya Ghoshal and Michael Jackson. The reason to like them all is that these all are natural artists who started singing at their childhood and as the time went by they grew and became unstoppable singing stars. It's all about love and passion about something that you work so hard to achieve it.
What music do you love to listen to, and how has this had an influence on the music you want to make? Most of my family members are associated with music, One of my uncles use to do bhangra and was also one of the first Rap artists in Pakistan . On the other hand my other uncle does Rock Music and my dad loves classical so I get to hear to all sorts of music, as long as its classic and well composed for example my first song YAAD PIYA KI in secular music was a tribute to Ustaad Bade Ghulaam Ali Khan Sahib. Then my debut song was JI LAY which is a hip hop and electronic music and my next song will be bhangra so I would love to do all sorts of music but in a different way.
Tell us a bit about your debut single ‘Ji Lay'? JI LAY is about living a good and honest life where there is no hate or war, just love. Its composed by my uncle Akash Sam who is in Pakistan releasing his second album, the music is composed by my cousin brother Rude Kid who is an upcoming music producer in the UK and the lyrics are written by my dad Asher Frank. JI LAY is a hip hop club beat song and is a fusion of Urdu and Punjabi.
What was it like filming the music video for the song? It was really fun and a very special day for me coz it was my 13 th birthday on the day of shoot! All my friends and family was there to celebrate my video and of course my birthday as well which really made it a very memorable and special video. The video is directed by my uncle Akash Sam .
If you could work with anyone in the music scene, who would it be? I would love to work with Ustaad Rahat fateh Ali Khan Sahib coz he is one of the most senior and God gifted artists. I look up to him a lot even my first song recorded in the studio was one of his songs ‘Tujahy Dekh Dekh Sona' when I was only 6 years old, I didn't record this song for releasing purpose but just because I loved the song and Rahat G.
If you could sing the soundtrack to any Bollywood film, which would you chose? ‘Ab to Hai Tum say Har khushi apni' by Lata G, It is the most amazing tune I have ever heard.
What have you got in store for the future? My next song is releasing hopefully by the end of January 2012, it is called BOLI PAWAAN. It's a mixture of Punjabi Gidha and Boliyaan with a very attractive bhangra beat to it and again is a fusion of folk and western beats.
