The talented UK Singer Ramzi who is signed to EMI Records has already made a mark in the Uk Asian music scene as well as the mainstream market. His first two singles ‘Alone’ and ‘Say Goodnight’ were instant hits and his continuous determination and success has allowed him to work alongside some of the most celebrated artists in the industry. So I catch up with Ramzi to find out more about his musical background, his latest single ‘Love is Blind’ and his debut upcoming album!
So as a multi-talented songwriter, producer, musician and singer, how did your passion for music begin?
It all started when I took guitar lessons at the age of nine, and taught myself the piano shortly after. I picked them up so quickly and it became apparent to everyone around me that I had a gift for music. At about the same time Michael Jackson also became my idol.
What has been the greatest moment of your music career so far?
Right now! I feel I'm finally starting to receive the recognition I think I deserve for all the years of hard work I have put in to mastering my craft. Signing with EMI records has certainly been another highlight- they really believe in me as an artist and my management are committed to making my music successful on a worldwide level. The release of my album is also very exciting- its out here on Monday 27th April- both online and in all good high street retailers- go get it!!!
How do feel being labelled as the UK's answer to R&B superstar Neyo?
It's great as he is very respectable artist and songwriter, but at the same time my aim is to be labelled as Ramzi.
So how would you define your music style?
Mature and soulful pop, with a slight ethnic twist.
What are your thoughts on the UK Asian music scene, are there any artists that stand out for you in particular?
On the pop side I have to give a lot of credit to Jay Sean for his recent success and for delivering such a strong album. On the alternative side I've always liked Nitin Sawney and have discussed working with him in the past. There are a few up and coming artists that I think have a lot of potential, Mumzy being one of them.
Who would you say has had a major influence on your music?
Life! That's the biggest influence. Musically I get influenced by a range of different music and artists, and a lot of it is what is on the charts or on the radio, but the artists that have had the biggest influence on my music overall are Brian Mcknight, Stevie Wonder, and Michael Jackson.
You have worked with quite a few big names in the industry, what was it like working with the U.K R&B star Taio Cruz?
I worked with Taio for many years, and we've written together on many projects. Working with talented people like him has helped make me the writer I am today.
Who would you love to collaborate with?
The list is long, but in general I'm a vocalist and would love to collaborate with any great singers out there. Mariah Carey back in the day would be one of them.
Your latest track 'Love Is Blind' is already an instant hit, tell us a bit about it?
It's a track that I've always known would be a hit. It's about a friend of mine who was being mistreated by her partner in a relationship but couldn't see it or get out. I knew this was a topic that many people could relate to and than we threw in the ethnic element of the arabic and hindi chorus which made it original.
What can we expect from your debut Album 'Chapter one'?
A solid album with loads of catchy hooks, lush vocals, and different feels that I hope reaches a lot of different audiences.
So what's in store for Ramzi next? Any surprises?
World domination! Lol! The next few months is totally focused on promoting the albums release across the world (UK, Middle East and Asia). Once that's done I'm back in the studio to record my second album (not sure if ill call it Chapter Two? Lol!) shortly, as well as a range of other production projects with exciting new and established UK and world music acts.
