Its time to jam out to some feel good music, as the UK Asian Music scene is hit with a outburst of talent from Sham D. Having re-launched himself for an exciting solo career, Sham's smooth RnB/ Pop vocals have already been heard and loved by a strong fan base across the U.K, a lot of which consists of screaming girls! He has worked closely with a number of artists from the U.K Asian music scene, including the Rishi Rich Project. For his latest track ‘I know' he's tied up with Mumzy Stranger for a catchy, versatile number with a mix of RnB and bashment sounds. Working with renowned producers at the world famous Soap Box studios, Sham is set to bring a fresh new sound of UK Asian Pop…the fun lovin' music we need more of! I catch up with Sham to find out more…
1) How did your musical journey initiate? Have you always know this is what you want to do?
My career started off as a dancer, I was part of a dance troupe and toured around the UK Mela circuit for some time, seeing other artists and having such love and passion for music made me think a little. One day I was singing at home, alone in my room and my older sister heard me and encouraged me to get some professional training and that's exactly what I did.
2) How would define your style of music? What makes you stand out in the scene?
My style of music is Pop with a bit of R'n'B I think the fact that i fuse my dancing and singing together helps me stand out a bit.
3) You have a great RnB/ Pop feel to your music, is this something that you have adopted from the music you grew up listening to?
Definitely, whilst growing up i was listening to many different styles of music anything and everything from 60's 70's 80's and 90's rocked for me. Having an elder brother and sister influenced that too as they hogged the stereo and TV most of the time.
4) What have you been up to in the past year and what forthcoming plans do we have to look forward to from you?
The past year has been crazy, as some people are aware I've gone solo and have started to record for my debut solo album which I'm very excited about, I've worked with so many talented people such as Rishi Rich, Veronica, Mumzy Stranger, Kully B and producers from Holland. And I'm planning my trip to America real soon to work with the famous Soapbox Studios who have recorded with the likes of Madonna, Rihanna, Boys 2 Men, Usher etc. I'm so excited I can't wait. And I'm shooting my brand new video soon too so look out for that on B4U.
5) You have performed at a variety of diverse events, and your dance moves are on point! What is your the secret to a perfect performance?
Everywhere I have performed has been amazing so far the support I'm getting is crazy, as for my dancing I practice and practice as much as possible I don't have a secret as I'm nowhere near perfect, but I guess the key thing is to just practice really.
6) Tell us a bit about your latest track ‘I know'?
'I Know' is a track that flips the situation a lot of ladies talk about, guys cheating on girls, so Mumzy and I decided to tell it from a Guys point of view. This song is purely dedicated to my fans, this is the least I could do for them, they are the best and I'm so lucky to have them supporting me and that is why we released it as a FREE Download.
7) What was it like working alongside Mumzy Stranger?
Working with Mumzy was amazing, I learnt so much as he produced the track too so working with him was fun and a great learning experience, he is super talented.
8) You have been working with producers across the globe, is it your plan to launch yourself in Stateside?
The plan is just to work as hard as possible and see what happens I would love for my music to be heard and known internationally.
9) Is there anyone you would like to collaborate with in the future?
There are so many artists and producers id love to work with, Timbaland being one of them he is just phenomenal.
10) So when can we expect the debut album? You must be busy working on it, what can we expect to hear on it?
There is no date for an album as yet though my brand new single feat Mumzy Stranger 'I KNOW' is out now as a Free Download on my Facebook fan page which is under the name of 'Sham D' do check it out and get your copy. I am busy in and out of studios putting together loads of songs at the moment also look out for my new video around summer time.
11) What are your thoughts on the UK Asian music scene? Are there any artists that stand out for you?
The UK Asian Music scene is very important and a close topic to me, it's where we come from and what brings bigger and greater things into our lives and career. Without the UK Asian Music scene we would not have a platform to showcase our talents. The UK Asian scene has got a lot of talented artists, the likes of Mumzy, Ramzi, Tasha Tah and loads more are representing with good music which is great.
12) What track is on replay on your IPod right now?
At the moment I love the sound track for My Name is Khan and Rihanna's new album. They have the most recent play counts on my IPod.
13) Is there anywhere we can catch you performing in the near future?
This sat the 6th of March ill be in Leeds performing at the White Rose Shopping Centre
