Introducing the latest addition to Doh Point Nau (2 POINT 9) Records… JERNADE MIAH. He’s a Singer…songwriter and even a dancer, hailing from East London, Jernade is all set to switch up the UK Asian Music scene in a big way with his soulful, urban sound. Having already made a noise with his debut single ‘Switch Me On’ which was loud enough to hit up the mainstream market, Jernade’s future in the music scene is looking extremely promising. So I catch up with 2 POINT 9’s newest home-grown talent to find out more!
1) How did you get started in the music industry? Has music always played a part in your life?
I've been singing since I was a kid, so I would say its played a massive part in my life. I would always sing everywhere, round the house, on my way to school, people would think I was talking to myself! Then as I got older I started getting in the studio with producers whenever I could to try and learn my craft and figure out the sound I wanted for myself.
2) What music did you grow up listening to?
I listened to loads of different artists while growing up. I liked a lot of Motown music, acts like Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye. The more recent music I liked was a lot of the RnB groups from the US like Boyz 2 Men, Jagged Edge & 112.
3) Congratulations on getting signed to 2 Point 9 records! How did it all happen?
Ive been out there doing my thing for a while and this eventually brought me to the attention of 2Point9. Once we talked and realised we all had the same ideas and vision it was a real easy decision to start working together, from all sides!
4) Not only are you a singer/ songwriter but you are also a dancer! Do you feel that this will benefit you as an artist when it comes to performances and stage presence?
I've loved dancing since I was a kid. It originally started at school where
a few of us could move a bit so we started going to rehearsal spots in East
London and just having fun. We weren’t thinking about a future career, we
just wanted to have a good time. I think if you’re gonna to be a performer you need to be able to entertain people on stage with how you move as well as how you sing. If people come out to see me I want to give them a show they will remember!
5) Are there any artists in particular that you would like to collaborate with?
There are so many artists out there that I’m feeling right now. I love whats happening in the UK Urban scene at the moment so I’d probably say Tinie Tempah & NDubz are two acts I’d like to do something with in the future!
6) Tell us a bit about your debut track ‘Switch Me On’?
Switch Me On is one of those feel good club tracks. The lyrics relate to me
winning people over with my music & performance who were maybe hating on me beforehand. The track has a bit of attitude in there and I think its one that’s gonna get the people dancing!
7) What can we expect from you in the near future? Any performances where we can catch you?
Things are crazy right now. Its so exciting with the amount of different
things going on! We’ve just released the first video to my single Switch Me
On and I’m in the studio with some really talented producers working on my
album. Im also working on the rehearsals for my live show and will be performing at the Leicester, Manchester & London Mela.
8) Where can you B4U fans find out more about you?
If they sign up to jernademiah.ccm they can get loads of free giveaways and stay up to date with what I’m up to. I’m also on twitter @jernade and facebook.com/jernademiah.
