Yeah
so this year hadn’t done much good for very many people in
the industry but there were a few who were hit so bad that
it hurt. Even if the flops were raining all over the stars,
few of the survivors had straws to hold on to but the following
simply had all the bad luck this year. We hope next year brings
them back to the fore with a bang.

Govinda
Nothing much is left unsaid about this Virar ka chokra. His
films came and flopped miserably leaving him with nothing.
His regular makers too cut corners and have nothing to offer
him. With duds like Pyar Diwana Hota Hai, Waah Tera Kya Kehna
and Ankhiyon Se Goli Maare Govinda went wrong by doing the
same antics every time. He needs to reinvent himself and once
again turn the charm of the No 1 entertainer.

Hrithik
Roshan
He came he saw he got and he lost. Hrithik Roshan saw dizzying
heights of success starting from 2000 January with his debut
film Kaho Naa Pyar Hai. his subsequent films in 2001 keep
him floating though none were ‘his’ films or superhits. Then
in 2002 three films - Na Tum Jano Na Hum, Aap Mujhe Achche
Lagne Lage and Mujhse Dosti Karoge released and the cookie
crumbled. Hrithik’s films flopped and he was no more a hit
and hot star. The muscled actor promises to be back with a
bang and he has few good films lined up in 2003 to back him
up.

Fardeen
Khan
Kambhakt Ishq in 2001 kept Fardeen Khan’s dwindling career
afloat. He bagged lot of films and had lots of releases too
inspite of his drug scandal last year. Om Jai Jagadish, Kitne
Door Kitne Paas, Kuch Tum Kaho Kuch Hum Kahein were the three
films that could have substantiated Fardeen’s position but
they didn’t leaving this Khan with nothing much to hold on
to. In 2003 Fardeen feels Boney Kapoor’s Khushi with Kareena
Kapoor might be the saving grace.

Sunny
Deol
A war of egos rendered Sunny Deol with a huge loss. After
a fight with friend director Raj Kumar Santoshi over who gets
to play Bhagat Singh in a Santoshi directed venture, finally
both Sunny and Santoshi parted ways, only to make two films
on Bhagat Singh. Santoshi’s The Legend Of Bhagat Singh had
more intricate detail and a close-up of history and Ajay Devgan’s
smoldering looks. Sunny’s March 23 1931 Shaheed had Bobby
Deol portray an honest performance while Guddu Dhanoa directed
it. The war resulted in two big flops and a loss of almost
50 crore. Sunny’s goodwill from 2001’s Gadar couldn’t salvage
the film. To top it Sunny had a big flop in Karz. Next year
Sunny will be back with Anil Sharma’s spy film The Hero.

Kareena Kapoor
The shrew seems to have been tamed. Fiery actress Kareena
Kapoor suffered a major fall when two of her so-called cool
films didn’t jingle at the box office. Mujhse Dosti Karoge
co starring Hrithik Roshan and Rani Mukherji and Jeena Sirf
Merre Liye co starring Tusshar Kapoor showcased Kareena as
the extension of Poo the Pooja of Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham.
Critics feel she hasn’t geared up her act and is taking things
a bit too lightly as everything is falling in place without
much effort. The smugness has mellowed and Kareena has signed
some real good films with almost three releases in 2003, she
hopes to be No 1 again.

Urmila Matondkar
She always relied on Ramu’s films to keep her on the charts.
After Pyar Tune Kya Kiya and Kambhakt Ishq, Urmila was lost
in the oblivion for a whole year only to emerge in Om Jai
Jagadish as a meddlesome bahu who breaks up the family. But
now she is once again hoping Ramu’s Bhoot will do wonders
for her, as will his other two productions she has in her
kitty.

Yukta Mookhey
Ex Miss World Yukta Mookhey’s acting debut Pyaasa left audiences
thirsty... period. The film was a huge letdown not counting
the problems and controversies with the producer and director.
Yukta now hopes that she can forget the experience and get
on with her life. With no serious projects in hand Yukta is
focusing on singing, learning the piano and writing her memoirs.
