There was enough happening
in 2002 to keep the scribes busy. If not for the legal problems
of Salman Khan’s accident then there were verbal issues of
Manisha Koirala. And don’t even start about the splits this
year. Love and harmony eluded Bollywood this year.

Salman’s rash driving
kills one
On September 28 film actor Salman Khan rammed his Toyota Land
cruiser into American Express Cleaners on Hill Road killing
one person and gravely injuring three others. He was on his
way back home after attending a party at JW Marriott Hotel
in Juhu. The incident occurred at 3 am in the night. He surrendered
to Bandra police later in the afternoon and a case of rash
and negligent driving was registered against the actor. The
Bandra Police has granted the actor bail. Khan was driving
the car along with friend Kamal Khan and bodyguard Ravindra.
However Khan's lawyer denied that Salman Khan was driving
the car though one of the victims who was being treated at
Bhabha Hospital claimed otherwise. Salman was then taken into
custody and released after a fortnight in jail.

Ash-Salman:
Déjà vu
Aishwarya Rai and Salman Khan were at it again. They once
again created a scene recently amidst unit members of Dreamz's
next film directed by Aziz Mirza. While shooting in Pune for
the film with Shah Rukh Khan, Ash reportedly had to face Salman's
wrath over some trivial matter. According to those present,
Salman was verbally abusive and didn't stop at anything. If
the grapevine is to be believed it seems Ash called Salman
on the cell but he got lost due to confusing roads and landmarks.
When he finally found them at Malshet Ghat he was angry beyond
reasoning. Ash denies calling him in the first place. Salman
was heard banging the van while shouting at Ash who did nothing
to stop him. But just when the unit members feared that he
might hit her too, they saw the now estranged-now together
couple riding off in his car as if they had come from a stroll
in a park. Leaving the shooting midway left a dent on Ash's
claims of being professional. Then Shahrukh who was too angry
had no choice but to replace her with Rani Mukherjee.

Manisha
& Ek Chotti Si Love Story
It all started with Manisha acting in a small budget film
called Ek Chotti Si Love Story directed by friend Shashilaal
Nair. The film was about a teenage boy falling in love with
a much older woman. What became the bone of contention was
that Nair used a body double and shot some almost nude and
cheap sex scenes. According to Manisha she was promised full
authority to ok those scenes but Nair thought otherwise. What
ensued was a huge court case and reams of printed matter.
Finally the Mumbai High Court Judge F I Rebello rejected Manisha
Koirala's plea saying that Ek Chotti Si Love Story was a neat,
clean and sensitive film and the "objectionable" scenes were
integral to it. "I'm happy with the court's judgment," Shashilal
Nair said. But Nair said that the film had suffered due to
the bad publicity it had garnered. "Ek Chottisi Love Story
was made out to be some kind of blue film. Manisha should
stop behaving like this and move ahead with life." Nair also
confessed that initially Manisha went to the press he felt
good that people would now be aware of his film.

Vivek
Oberoi splits with fiancé
Vivek Oberoi and fiancé Gurpreet Gill’s relationship went
kaput. The couple split. The reason for this separation is
not yet known. Vivek Oberoi and Gurpreet Gill who had a lavish
engagement bash a few months ago postponed their December
marriage permanently. What compound the rumours are the non-stop
shooting schedules Vivek likes to be immersed in. While shooting
for Samir Karnik's Kyon Ho Gaya Na at the Mumbai's Retreat
hotel, Oberoi reportedly told an acquaintance that he was
trying to concentrate on work. Insiders say that Gurpreet's
presence on the sets where he would be shooting was too overbearing,
so much so that once even the otherwise calm Ramgopal Varma
once lost his temper when they were shooting for Road. There
were also talks about how Gurpreet could not get along with
Vivek's family

Aamir-
Reena file for divorce
Aamir Khan and wife Reena Datta officially filed an application
for a divorce by mutual consent putting an end to rumors about
their imminent separation. The divorce application reportedly
also mentions that the couple lived separately since October
2001 and the only time Reena and Aamir came together was to
attend the Oscar ceremony. Perhaps it was last time that the
couple came together. They have been most dignified about
their separation - no washing dirty linen in public.

Kamal
Sarika spilt
Southern superstar Kamal Hassan apparently got involved with
Southern superstar Simran and therefore wished to terminate
his marriage to Sarika so as to give Simran the legal status
of a wife. Sarika moved out of his house while they will share
the custody of their two daughters. At this critical juncture
Kamal's ex-wife Vani Ganapathy in an exclusive interview to
a Southern magazine said that she pitied the new woman in
his life. "Kamal uses sadistic tactics to compel his women
into a divorce. I have gone through it and it is now Sarika
who will have to go through it," she said. Vani also insinuated
that Sarika's recent fall from the terrace was nothing but
a suicide attempt. Simran clarified that she was very much
in love with Raju Sunderam, actor Prabhudeva's brother, "So
an affair with Kamal was out of question!"
